Best GCSE Results Ever

Students were jumping for joy as the school recorded its best GCSE results – among the best in the country. Headteacher Mr Rahman said the school had improved on last year’s results, which made the school among the most improved in the country. Last year the school achieved a progress score of plus 0.76 meaning students at the school achieved grades three-quarters higher than the average. The success is down to creating a warm, welcoming and compassionate learning environment for students, the headteacher said. He said: “We are incredibly pleased to have improved on last year’s results, it shows that we are continuine to push for excellence. We do not wish to stand still but constantly improve. Our students have shown great resilience to push for strong grades.They showed up early every morning, stayed late at night and came in during the holidays because they knew how important these exams were. I also have to thank our incredible dedicated teachers who gave up their own time to help our students achieve.”

Zaynab

Student Zaynab doubled her expected grade in English after joining Waterside Academy at the beginning of Year 11. She scored a grade 8 in her exam after being predicted a 4. She will study Physics, Biology, Maths and Further Maths at A-Level.

Nicholas 

Bright Nicholas scored the grades required to secure a £60,000 scholarship to City of London school. He scored the top grade of 9 in Maths and will study Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A-Level. He said: “ I am so pleased to have got the grades I needed to get the scholarship to City of London. I can’t wait to get started. “I am incredibly grateful to the academy for helping me get into City of London school and offering so much support in revising for exams.”

Aaron 

Student Aaron scored top grades despite moving to the U.K. from South Africa. He said the hardest part was adapting to the new curriculum. He will now study Maths, Music and Computer Science at A-Level. He said: “I am so happy to have done well in my exams. Most of my grades were from 6-8 so I am really pleased. “It was tough coming from another country but I got amazing support and the teachers helped me adapt to the curriculum really quickly.”

Melody

Student Melody will study Media Studies at college after scoring strong grades in her GCSE. She had extra support from staff to manage stress with the exams. She said: “The school really helped me manage the stress. I’m really glad it’s done and I can take my next step.”

Ezekiel

Hardworking student Ezekiel scored three times his expected grades at GCSEs. He achieved grades 7 and 8 in a lot of his subjects, despite being predicted lower grades. He had a progress 8 score of plus 2.95, which means he has achieved much higher than predicted when he joined the school. He said: “Everything you want in life comes down to hard work. I knew I had to work hard to get top grades, so that is what I did. “The support from the school has been amazing. “The teachers put in so many extra study sessions to help students do well in their exams.”

Headteacher of Waterside Academy, Mr Rahman, said: “The great thing about this school is we really know and care for each other. “Everyone knows each other by name, and because of that, we are able to support the students well.”
